Heat Resisting / Heat-Resistant Castings

Eight core products covering three temperature zones and three mechanical systems. Alloy selection is the #1 quality factor in high-temperature castings — one wrong grade costs a kiln stop.

Use this section for clinker cooler grate plates, cooler side plates, kiln nose ring segments, preheater dip tubes, chain sprockets and HK / HP alloy heat resisting castings.

#1 Heat-Resistant Part

Clinker Cooler Grate Plates / Cooler Grates

Clinker Cooler Grate Plates / Cooler Grates — heat-resistant castings for clinker coolers, rotary kilns, preheaters and material handling systems. OEM-compatible supply, custom casting and machining, material certificates included.

Cast heat-resistant plates in the cooler section of a cement kiln. Four alloy grades by position: HH (650°C / cool zone discharge grates, dip tubes), HK (850°C / mid-zone, side plates), HP (1,050°C / hot zone, kiln inlet), HP-Nb (1,200°C / bull nose, kiln nose ring). Sigma-phase stabilized for long service at operating temperature. One failed grate plate forces a complete kiln stop — direct production loss.

Rotary Kiln Nose Ring Segments / Outlet Segments

Rotary Kiln Nose Ring Segments / Outlet Segments — heat-resistant castings for clinker coolers, rotary kilns, preheaters and material handling systems. OEM-compatible supply, custom casting and machining, material certificates included.

The most thermally stressed component in the cooler system. HP-Nb (25Cr-35Ni+Nb) or HP Micro alloy. Faces 1,400 °C direct clinker discharge + secondary flame impingement. Premature failure causes clinker spillage and burner pipe damage.

Clinker Cooler Side Plates / Sealing Plates

Clinker Cooler Side Plates / Sealing Plates — heat-resistant castings for clinker coolers, rotary kilns, preheaters and material handling systems. OEM-compatible supply, custom casting and machining, material certificates included.

Line the cooler side walls and seal the clinker bed from the under-grate compartment. HK (mid-zone) or HH (cool zone) castings. Always supplied as left/right matched pairs. Worn plates allow spillage into the under-grate compartment, increasing cooler fan power consumption.

Which Alloy for Your Temperature Zone?

High-temperature castings require correct Ni content and microstructure. Wrong grade = premature failure and kiln stop.

Three Rules for Heat-Resistant Casting Economics

① Nickel content = creep resistance = cost. Ni goes from 12% (HH) to 35%+Nb (HP-Nb). Each 10% Ni increment adds significant cost to the casting. Selecting HP-Nb where HK would work wastes money. Selecting HK where HP-Nb is needed costs a kiln stop.

② Sigma phase embrittlement is the silent killer. Prolonged exposure at 600-900 °C causes chrome-rich sigma phase precipitation in the grain boundaries of HK/HP alloys. HP-Nb with niobium stabilization resists this. Catastrophic brittle fracture during shutdown restart.

③ Chain itself is not a casting product \u2014 but sprockets, buckets, and flights are. Do not supply chain links, pins, or bushings \u2014 these are forged/machined products outside your foundry capability. Focus on the cast components that interface with the chain system.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

HH, HK, HP, or HP-Nb — which grade for which temperature zone?
HH (25Cr-12Ni): 650 °C max — cooler discharge grates, dip tubes. HK (25Cr-20Ni): 850 °C max — cooler mid-zone, side plates. HP (25Cr-35Ni): 1,050 °C max — cooler hot zone, kiln inlet. HP-Nb (25Cr-35Ni+Nb): 1,200 °C max — cooler bull nose, kiln nose ring. Niobium carbide stabilization resists sigma phase embrittlement at 600–900 °C.
What is sigma phase embrittlement?
Prolonged exposure at 600–900 °C causes chrome-rich sigma phase precipitation in the grain boundaries of HK/HP alloys. This hard, brittle phase creates zero-ductility fracture paths. Components fail catastrophically during shutdown restart due to thermal contraction stresses. HP-Nb resists sigma phase formation through niobium carbide stabilization of grain boundaries.
What happens when a cooler grate plate fails?
Hot clinker falls through the broken plate into the under-grate compartment, clogging cooler fans and distorting cooler floor panels. The forced kiln stop causes 8–48 hours of lost production while the cooler is cooled, cleaned, and the plate is replaced. A single plate failure drives the entire kiln system offline.
Induction-hardened sprockets — why are they preferred?
Chain sprocket tooth flanks see 1–10 million high-cycle contact impacts per year. Induction-hardened teeth (HRC 52–58) extend tooth life 2–3× over through-hardened sprockets without affecting core ductility. The hardened case resists wear; the softer core absorbs impact without cracking. This is the standard for continuous-duty elevator systems.
